All sounds made by liquid synthesizers. Fluid splashing CV, sloshing oscillations. Stimulated by sunbeam rays and ray-gun bliss. Stuttering and floating within packed brownstone. Brill dorsals, condensation and puffs of smoke bleed out chicken bladders and whale skin. Stay in the moment of most joy. Shoot down the ideas and live stapling those 8.5s together. Stuttering aligned beauty in the thick steam.

Since 2010 Calgary, Alberta’s Whitney Ota has been putting out music under the direction of Yankee Yankee (YY). While playing in groups such as Natural and Burro, YY is a solo synth based project out of his home recording studio, Canopy Sound. Through his YY releases Ota has exercised his expression with a high understanding of composition and sound construction. This is his fifth release on Unit Sound Structure Recordings.

The sound structure that evolves out of Segments is a dizzying one. It flows from the hypnotic and spacious to a frantic, anxiety ridden pace without the listener being aware until it’s too late. It is a power release of patience and imagination that liquefies while staying constrained to the mind. Segments exploration through electronics and synthesizers will lead the listeners to a playful and insightful daydream that is always the result with YY’s music.
